As most of you know Damien and I recently got married, we meet through Team Fortress 2 almost two years ago and we really wanted to send something nice to VALVe as a thank you for bringing us together so we had this little photo book printed and mailed it to them. Here’s what it said:

“Our first convention together. Naturally cosplayed Sniper and Scout”

“We also cosplayed Medics.”

“Rebecca’s first time in Canada. Damien as Medic with one of our doves, Archimedes. Rebecca as Pyro.”

“We also went to a cosplay skate. Being as Canada’s freezing we went as winter Heavy and Soldier.”

When we weren’t together we continued to show our love for TF2. Damien as BLU Engineer and Rebecca as RED (our rivalry continued).”

“For a while we continued going back and forth. Damien to Florida.”

“Rebecca to Canada. Until we couldn’t take the pain of leaving each other any longer.”

“In May of 2012 Rebecca moved to Canada. The weekend of Anime North, we couldn’t resist.”

“We continued to craft TF2 items.Like these Ballonicorn PJs and Sniper cosplay.”

“Or these comfy matching Pyro PJs.”

We even got a small tribute to the game.”

“Soon after moving we got engaged! A nice photoshoot ensued…”

“Which didn’t last long.”

“But we’re all friends in the end, right?”

“We got married on March 2nd, 2013.”

“Our wedding party.”

I also included a little letter:

Dear Valve Team,

 I am writing you today to tell you our story of how Team Fortress 2 brought us together.

My wife and I met through Team Fortress two years ago when she saw my Meet the Medic cosplay online. Despite our love for opposite teams, me-BLU and her-RED, we started playing Medic and Heavy together and made a great team. We talked constantly, working together to refine metal and craft hats eventually becoming inseparable on and off game. Although she lived in warm, sunny Florida she eventually opted to move to freezing Canada with me after going back and forth for long visits. We were happily married on March 2^nd  2013. Our vows included “you are the Medic to my Heavy” and we played “Still Alive” from Portal as our cake cutting song. We have our own small business now, Identity Productions, and have done quite a few TF2 commissions including Itsy Bitsy Spyers, Anger hoods, the Wraith Wrap, a couple of Sniper vests, a Soldier jacket replica, and more. 

We wanted to let you know that if it wasn’t for your hard work on this awesome game we probably would have never met from so far away and we want to thank you all for making such a great game that has brought together so many people through killing tiny baby men and trading hats! We had this little photo book printed just for you and we hope you will take a moment to look through it and give yourselves a pat on the back.

Damien drew a little sketch on the back and we mailed it out last week, I really hope that they get it soon and are able to see how much they did for us!

x On why Kirk needs Spock: The relationship [with Spock] is the core of what Kirk goes through. It’s substantial, and the arc and the trajectory of his journey is huge, almost Greek. But you can’t talk about Kirk without talking about Spock, and it’s through his relationship with Spock that he learns the greatest lessons, about loving someone to the point of being able to do away with all rules and regulations and the constraints in order to save, protect and do justice to your friend.

x On his first time playing gay: My first intimate scene [onscreen] was with Tom Everett Scott,” Pine says, referring to his role in the TV movie-of-the-week, Surrender, Dorothy, with Diane Keaton, in which he plays gay. “He’s an incredible spooner — very warm, very sensitive.”

x How his four-year English degree from Berkley contributed to a kind of critical speed-read technique: “I think I’ve read 20 scripts in the last two and a half weeks. Those tools are indispensable, all those little micro-muscles in your brain that are just trained to see certain things. All you do all day is read, break down story, structure, character, and technique.”

x On costar Zachary Quinto’s sexuality and coming out: It was something that I knew about Zach from the moment I met him. It was just who Zach was and that’s that. I’m sensitive, and I don’t ever want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Knowing that for Zach it was more about a career thing and that he was not comfortable at the time coming out — it was fine. It was something that we kind of tiptoed around and I just took it as a given, because that’s what he wanted.” But when Quinto came out in 2011 in an interview with New York magazine, Pine was thrilled: “So happy for him, oh man. I thought it was rad. It was really, really cool. He did it on his own time, on his own schedule. And Jonathan [Groff], who he’s dating, is such a lovely man. He’s a good guy and a great actor, and they make a fantastic couple. I couldn’t have been happier for Zach.”

x He’d like to see a gay action star: “All it really takes is the fact that the man isn’t going home to his wife, but has a boyfriend at home,” he says. “I think it would be a wonderful thing to see.”

I actually picked up this copy of OUT Magazine because Chris Pine gave such an excellent interview. 

This interview has just made me want to give this man right here a hug :D
